What is Positive Behaviour Support (PBS)?
This includes specialist behavioural intervention support, which is intensive support for a participant, intending to address significantly harmful or persistent Behaviours of Concern (BoC).
Behaviour support requires a behaviour support plan to be developed that aims to limit the likelihood of behaviours of concern developing or increasing once identified. This plan outlines the specifically designed positive behavioural support strategies for a participant, their family and support persons that will achieve the intended outcome of eliminating or reducing behaviours of concern.
Is Ararat Wellness a NDIS registered provider?
Yes. We are a registered NDIS provider with a team who are highly experienced and qualified to provide behavioural support services to participants (aged 8 and over).
What types of reports do you provide?
The team at Ararat Wellness can provide the following reports –
- Interim Behavioural Support Plans
- Functional Behavioural Assessments
- Comprehensive Behavioural Support Plans
- End of plan reports
- Funding recommendation reports
- Restrictive Practices reports
- Progress reports
Does Ararat Wellness have an Incident Reporting System?
Yes, we have an incident management system to record and manage incidents that occur in connection with caring for you or your loved one and any incident report to the NDIS Quality and Safeguards Commission, who provide the regulatory oversight.
How does Ararat Wellness manage behaviours?
Our behavioural support services are all about understanding why you or your loved one or your client might use inappropriate or challenging behaviour and what can be done to build capacity in a safe and enjoyable environment.
Do you provide one-on-one support?
Yes. When receiving behavioural support, you will have a one-on-one with a friendly and highly qualified and experienced behavioural support worker to ensure you or your loved one is getting the attention and support you or your loved one’s need.
How do you communicate with us?
Ararat Wellness team understand that you or your loved one like to communicate differently, which is why we like to conduct an initial assessment to understand how you or your loved one like to communicate through behaviour and how this could be affecting others. Once we have an idea of your or your loved one’s communication and behaviour, we then conduct an assessment of your or your loved one’s environment (for example – where you or your loved one live and where you or your loved one work) to determine if this meets your everyday needs and wants, and how this could be influencing communication or behaviour.
What happens after the initial meeting and assessment?
Once these have taken place, we then implement a positive behaviour support plan or skill development plan to ensure you or your loved one has a clear road map towards further building confidence, capacity and general well-being.
How will Ararat Wellness discover what is causing a Behaviour?
The team at Ararat Wellness will start with:
- Gathering and reading relevant reports – from schools, Occupational Therapists, and other health professionals
- Listening to family members, support staff, and others who know the person well, like their GP
- Spending time and talking to the person with a disability in a lot of different settings to see how they respond and feel
What strategies will Ararat Wellness use to manage Behaviours?
The team will look at:
- What we suggest will depend on the person and their needs but there are lots of different strategies.
- Ways to respond safely if the person does use a behaviour
- Skills training so a person no longer needs to use certain behaviours
- Communication training
- Changes that could be made to the home or environment
Does Ararat Wellness provide training for implementing strategies?
Yes, we do as part of the funding provided under Improved Relationships.Families and carers may need education and training around how to implement the recommended strategies. Our team will help make sure everyone understands the plan and that the plan is effective.
Where does Ararat Wellness provide support?
Our team is every expanding. At this time, we provide services to Ararat/Horsham/Ballarat and surrounding area along with greater Melbourne and some limited services in Sydney. We are expanding to QLD in the near future.
Our team is happy to discuss your options for remote engagement which is sometimes suitable for geographically isolated participants.
Where does the funding come from?
The most common NDIS category of Positive Behavourial Support comes from Improved Relationships. If your plan does not include this type of funding, we have some options available. Please contact us to discuss further.
Please note: We bill in line with the NDIS Price Guide, which generally increases annually.

Does Ararat Wellness provide Behavioural Support for Children?
Yes, we are registered to provide services for children aged 8 years and over. We will also be happy to assist in finding a provider for Early Childhood Intervention services (aged below 8 years) as this is a high specialised area.
Do you provide one-on-one support?
Our experienced team of NDIS registered Counsellor’s work with clients who are experiencing the effects of trauma, crisis, grief, or anxiety. While our team of counsellors can assist in overcoming all these areas of distress, that’s not the only purpose they serve.
Our counsellors can improve your quality of life by helping you plan, achieve, and process the experiences you view or feel. What many people don’t realise is that counsellors aren’t only there to support you through a mental health crisis.
What are your Counsellors trained in?
All of Ararat Wellness’ counsellors are trained professionals who can support you in developing coping strategies time management skills, help you build confidence and gain more positive perspectives.
How is Counselling different from other NDIS support services?
Ararat Wellness NDIS Counselling is different to other services as it is a therapeutic support that guides participants to develop different techniques and skills to strengthen their mental health and achieve individualised goals.
Counselling is a capacity-building and capacity-enhancing therapeutic service that offers more than just emotional support. Rather, the service seeks to support and develop the ‘inner’ you so you’re able to achieve your goals and become more independent.What are the benefits of NDIS Counselling Services?
If you have counselling in your NDIS plan, it can be a great way to get extra support and develop your personal capacity. Our counsellors are flexible and can adapt to your needs, so if you want to spend extra time building your capacity, they can help by:
- Assisting your planning, time management and memory issues
- Supporting you in your job-seeking journey
Guiding you through life transition goals - Refining your social skills so you can learn about different perspectives
- Supporting your time management and goal-setting skills
While there are many other supports that you can access using your NDIS plan, an Ararat Wellness counsellor can offer additional support and help you develop a manageable system that helps provide extra guidance in areas you might feel overwhelmed or have problems with.
How do I engage an Ararat Wellness Counsellor?
To access counselling services under the NDIS, you must have the item Improved Daily Living in your plan. Improved Daily Living provides funds to access an allied health professional and is generally flexible across other therapeutic services. You could, therefore, use some or all of your Improved Daily Living funds for counselling if you think it will benefit you and your short-term goals.
What can I discuss with my Ararat Wellness Counsellor?
Counselling is a valuable service as it tailors therapeutic support so you can work through a problem or issue with a trained professional. One of the greatest benefits of seeing a professional Ararat Wellness counsellor is that it provides a safe space to discuss what is going on in your life without fear of judgment. These can include a range of topics such as:
- Abuse
- Addiction
- Exploring gender identity and/or sexuality
- General life advice
- Grief and loss
- Parenting
- Relationship issues
